Women of Color in the Law Forum: Cultivating Mindfulness & Presence

Join us for a virtual gathering to celebrate women of color in the law. We know that staying connected to community is challenging in these times. Together, let's take the time to revitalize our network and deepen our connections. At this virtual event we'll honor our spring 2020 law school graduates, hear from mindfulness expert Jeena Cho, and connect with each other in discussion groups.

As women lawyers of color, we have unique challenges and struggles. Often, we feel haggard with the overwhelming to-do list and cognitive load that comes with it. However, there are concrete strategies and tools which can be practiced and implemented to reduce the likelihood of chronic stress, anxiety, disengagement, and burnout. In this interactive workshop, we’ll explore the role of mindfulness and meditation practice in increasing resilience. More specifically, how practice of compassion can help to reduce the negative self-talk, and the feelings of inadequacy.

Jeena Cho, author of The Anxious Lawyer, joins us as our keynote speaker. Her work on meditation and mindfulness skills created for attorneys, by attorneys, focuses on practices that can reduce anxiety, improve focus and clarity, and enrich the quality of life. In community with other women lawyers, we’ll discuss and cross-pollinate ideas. You are invited to practice mindfulness, meditation, and engage in dialogue with other like-minded lawyers.

This has been coordinated as part of a continuing series of events, in follow-up to the successful Annual Women of Color in the Law Forum, which has been held each winter for the past 5 years. Inspired by the leadership of Loan Huynh, a Shareholder at Fredrikson & Byron, P.A. and Cynthia Lee, Counsel at Faegre Drinker, who are the founders of the Annual Women of Color in the Law Forum, this subsequent event has been coordinated to provide another opportunity for the community to come together on an important topic of interest. Look for more information about the Annual Women of Color in the Law Forum to be scheduled later in late 2020 / early 2021.
