In May last year, we started the Wanton Injustice Legal Detail to harness the collective power of TCDIP’s membership to remedy systemic anti-Black racism in the Twin Cities by partnering with and amplifying the work of existing community organizations. 

What is the MDHR Investigation into the Minneapolis Police Department?

From the Minnesota Department of Human Rights:

"On June 1, 2020, the Minnesota Department of Human Rights launched a civil rights investigation into the Minneapolis Police Department after filing a Commissioner's charge related to the death of George Floyd. 

This investigation into policies, procedures, and practices over the past 10 years will determine if the police department engaged in systemic discriminatory practices towards people of color and ensure any such practices are stopped. 

This is the first time the state launched a civil rights investigation into the systemic discriminatory practices of the largest police department in the state. It's also the only investigation surrounding the killing of George Floyd focusing on the policies and practices implemented by the Minneapolis Police Department."

How can you assist with the MDHR Investigation?

We are seeking volunteers to help with this project! We need volunteers to both help spread the word to the general public about the project and to conduct interviews. These volunteer opportunities are open to all legal professionals at Member organizations. 

Outreach: We need to spread the word about this project to the public. If you are interested in doing outreach, we will ask you to share our flyer with organizations and individuals that may be interested in participating or have a broad reach to the greater Twin Cities. Interviews: If you are interested in doing interviews, we will ask you sign up to interview individual participants about their experience with the Minneapolis Police Department. Interviews will be conducted from May 1 - May 31. You will also need to watch a recorded training video and read our Process Guide. Please sign up to volunteer at this link!
