Understanding Mental Health Diagnoses: Hosted by Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers

Most of us live and work in environments filled with a human population of varied backgrounds and experiences. Do you ever wish you had a better understanding of the mental health diagnoses impacting your clients, co-workers, or family members? This session surveys four common mental health diagnoses attorneys are likely to encounter during their practices: Attention Deficit Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Post-Trauma Stress Disorder. The impact of stigma and resulting bias will underlie all elements of this program. Studies have shown that stigma and bias are significant obstacles preventing lawyers from seeking help. These same biases can adversely affect attorney-client relationships; thus, reducing stigma and bias is of paramount importance. The presenter will lead a discussion on how to talk to someone who may be struggling and the resources available. The full range of LCL services will also be presented. The presenter, Jill Carlson, MA LPCC, is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a Case Manager at LCL MN.
