Shaping a Consent Decree: Addressing Race-Based Policing in Minneapolis
Tuesday, August 02, 2022, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM CDT
Category: TCDIP Events

Following a two-year investigation, the Minnesota Department of Human Rights (MDHR) found that the City of Minneapolis and Minneapolis Police Department engage in race-based policing. MDHR will work alongside the City to develop a consent decree, a court-enforced, legally binding agreement, to ensure reforms within the MPD.

Join WILD for a virtual, facilitated engagement session to gather ideas from members of the legal industry on what should be included in a consent decree to address race-based policing in Minneapolis. We need your input to provide MDHR a full perspective on what members of the public, and especially legal professionals, think the consent decree should address. What we gather from these engagement sessions will be included in a report to MDHR that will inform the content for a consent decree with the City of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Police Department.

What is a Consent Decree? A consent decree is a court-enforceable agreement that identifies specific changes to be made and timelines for those changes to occur.

If you are unable to attend these engagement sessions, but would like to provide input please fill out this form on the MDHR website or register for other listening sessions hosted by the Minnesota Justice Research Center.
