Applying Distance Learning Best Practices to Remote Work with Lawyers and Law Students

The public health concerns related to Covid-19 have introduced a new reality which includes remote working for our law firms and organizations. In 2015, Mitchell Hamline School of Law introduced the first ABA-approved blended learning curriculum delivering both remote and in-person education to law students around the country, including legal work experience inside law firms, businesses, non-profits, and government entities. There is much we can learn from distance-learning education about working remotely and creating a welcoming and inclusive online work environment for all. We’ll discuss best practices with a special emphasis on how to reduce bias and increase inclusion while working remotely.

Join us on Tuesday, April 14th from 9:30am-10:45am for a discussion on how organizations can utilize distance-learning techniques to effectively engage lawyers and law students in remote work. Faculty and Instructional Design staff from Mitchell Hamline School of Law will share developed distance-learning best practices for engaging remotely one-on-one and in large and small groups, for organizing remote work and gathering and delivering feedback, and for identifying and meeting organizational and project goals and more. These strategies will help create a welcoming and inclusive remote-work culture for lawyers and law students working in your firm or organization and ensure the delivery of high-quality work product.
