YWCA Racism 101 Workshop
Thursday, October 01, 2020, 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM CDT
Category: Community Events

What is racism, really? Often people think of big, obvious examples like racial slurs, the KKK or Nazis, racial hate crimes or not hiring someone because of the color of their skin. But thinking about what racism is and is not is much more complicated than that. Join us for a conversation that explores the four levels of racism and how they stand alone and intersect with each other, and gain knowledge of how racism plays a role in everyday interactions, decisions, policies, procedures and laws within the U.S.

This is a 100-level workshop. 100-level workshops are designed to offer an interactive space for participants to learn about race, power, privilege and identity. These workshops are a great way to reinforce key learnings in your racial justice journey, or build a foundation of common vocabulary and understanding for a workplace or community. Workshops are designed to complement each other and listed in suggested order of progression, however, each may be taken on its own as well.

Note: This is not a webinar. Participants will be expected to be engaged in large and small group conversations, and are asked to stay for the full 90-minute duration of the workshop. Please plan to arrive on time.
