Census: Role and Impact in the Legal Community

Category: Community Events

Please join the Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association for a panel discussion on the role of the census, its impact on the legal community and the communities we serve. In 2019, the U.S. Census Bureau issued a report entitled, Demographic Turning Points for the United States: Population Projections for 2020 to 2060. In the year 2045 people of color will compromise the majority of the U.S. population. All racial groups have grown recently in Minnesota, but between 2010 and 2018, the state has added five times as many people of color as non-Hispanic White residents. The Latino population growth alone in Minnesota has been quite large, increasing 24% since 2010. In the midst of these demographic shifts, Minnesota is still home to some of the starkest racial disparities in the country. There is a 51% color- white gap in homeownership in Minnesota. Furthermore, African Americans have a poverty rate four times that of the poverty rate for white people. This CLE is for the legal community to learn why the census is relevant to our field. The Zoom link for this CLE will be shared in the e-mail order confirmation received after registering (at the bottom under the "Additional Information" section). Attendees can click that link to access the CLE.
